| Fitting a garmin 160c fish finder |
first job is to open the box and check everything is present with this done carefully work out here you are going to mount the fish finder
don’t
have it to far away you need to be able to adjust the finder while on the water so make sure you can reach it on the other
hand if its to close to the front of your console it may hinder re-entry or get in the way while changing tackle or un-hooking
fish .
Once the location for the fish finder head
unit is decided 3 simple nuts and bolts were used to mount the head mount base I like to use some silicone seal on the bolts
to form a watertight seal once they are all tightened
Next was to put the wires through the kayak
deck I decided to make a small plastic box to cover the hole in the console the box was filled with silicone then fitted with
2 nuts and bolts you can see I decided to fit a deck loop here as well this is just an extra anchor point .
The same fitting with the excess silicone cleaned
away leaves a waterproof and neat job
You can see
here the position of the fish finder head unit and the watertight block I left just enough cable to make the connection
All was left to dry and set over
night
The short bungee cord is used to keep the cables
tidy during transport on the car
Next up will be the electrics, battery box and transducer all done inside
the hull
