the fatyak kaafu comes with 2 deep moulded in hatches in order to fit an internal
transducer Scotty rod mount and gain access to the hull for storage one had to go so I decided to remove the front one
and fit an aluminium cooking pot this way I still had the use of the internal bucket and also had the ability to access the
hull inside. I decided on an aluminium pan from a camping cooking set so that I could
remove it and boil up water for hot drinks or food when needed without the possibility of forgetting to pack it which I have
done a few times .
This is the moulded in deep bucket with the rubber hatch lid
removed before the modification
Using the chosen aluminium cooking pot I marked a thin line
around the diameter of the top of the cooking pot then a second smaller circle was marked slightly smaller to accommodate
the rolled lid of the pot
A start hole was drilled and using a jig saw the cutting began
carefully remembering that it is the inside smaller hole that needs to be cut out
Once the cutting was complete the inner bowl was removed
Using a small file all the edges were filed smooth and any
un- even cutting was was evened out
A small hobby blow lamp was then used to just quickly run
over the edge plastic this removed any rough bits sharp edges and burs which were left over from the filing
A quick wipe down with a damp cloth and The new aluminium
cooking pot was then put in place and rubber hatch cover re-fitted. The total time to make this first modification was
20 mins
